Editorial Policy
Standards governing source documentation, claims verification, and factual corrections.
Documentation and Source Evaluation
Our editorial assessments rely on public technical documentation, merchant part manifests, and manufacturer specification releases. We prioritize raw measurements over promotional product descriptions.
- Published Dimensions
- Tip widths, pin diameters, and jaw spans are recorded directly from seller technical listings. If dimensions are stated vaguely (e.g., "fits all watches"), we flag the lack of specific tolerances.
- Materials and Alloys
- Steel designations (such as S2, CR-V, or high-carbon steel) are cited strictly as seller-reported claims. We do not independently verify metal composition through metallurgical lab analysis.
- Wear-Part Replacements
- We confirm whether listings explicitly include replacement pins, reversible blades, or spare chuck teeth, as budget watch tools frequently experience wear on high-friction tips.
Corrections Standard
When a seller updates a tool's bundled accessories, alters sizing tolerances, or when an error in our transcription of technical details is identified, our policy is to correct the record promptly.
1Verify the updated seller manifest or discrepancy against current catalog records.
2Directly modify the published measurement, alloy label, or package listing.
3Log the adjustment within the article text if it materially affects compatibility guidance.
